Worst. Crafting. Ever.

There’s really no point to it as everything you make takes too much time, money, and effort and isn’t nearly as good as the stuff that drops in dungeons or can be had via PvP Honor Points.

Ever wonder why it costs so much to learn flying or to repair your armor (even when you’re a blacksmith…wtf.)?  It’s because there is ultimately no other reason to have money, nothing else to really spend it on because, as is well known, the crafted gear is not nearly as good as the dungeon drops.

Sure, you can spend money on other crafting materials, but the fact of the matter is a large part of the WoW “economy” is propped up on shitty game design.

And let’s not even get into the stupid time-sink game only game design feature that is called “Bind on Pick-up”.  What a horrible pig chute.

Stupidest fucking thing ever.

Question: What does that have to do with PvP?

Answer: Nothing!

Just another carrot to chase…keep chasing little rabbits…

It’s a horrible game design and I feel it should never be part of an MMO, let alone such a core feature as it is in WoW…

What is it?

Losing Control of Your Character!

Too many fucking currencies!

Honor Points.  Justice Points.  Valor Points.  Conquest Points.  Reputation.  Shards.  Gold.

What else?

Seriously, so many hoops to jump through…keep chasing the fucking carrot…

Don’t make the two factions come across as “Good” versus “Evil”.  Evil will almost always attract more players resulting in an imbalance.  Make everything a shade of grey.

Don’t cause excessive loss of control of a character as a primary game feature.  There is nothing fun about it.  And all it does is mask serious balance issues.

Ever notice how World of Warcraft punishes you with time?

The Trick or Treat where you are “tricked” and turned into a cat or worm or whatever and can’t do anything for 30 seconds…Punished By Time.

Leave a BG because one side has 4 healers and your side has none and you’re not a glutton for punishment simply because Blizzard doesn’t balance the BG’s…Punished By Time.

Flying around the world…especially you have to go out of your way because Blizzard doesn’t put direct flights in the game…Huge Punished By Time.

Earn Honor Points, run out of things to buy at your current level, yet you are unable to buy things for your higher levels…so you hold onto the points, hit the cap and lose the potential to earn more points, or you buy shit you don’t really need or want…Punished By Time Like a Bitch.

More?

…in WoW PvP?

It’s not mages, not with their damage shields.

And it isn’t any healing class, unless we’re talking the lowest levels.

And it certainly isn’t any plate wearing class.

So who are rogues supposed to be able to win a fight against in the upper levels of the game?

I’d really like to know.

What Do MMO Players Want in Their PVP?

The difference between MMO PVP games and FPS PVP games is, in a nutshell, Player Progression.

Generally, your character does not progress, change or “grow” in First Person Shooter games, which is one of the reasons those games are balanced for player versus player encounters.  Every character class, from team to team, is the same – same stats, same pros and cons, same weapons, etc.  That’s also why many people find those games a little boring.

So the thing that makes MMO PVP games more fun, dynamic and interesting, is also the thing that makes it very difficult to balance – Character Growth.

Obviously the solution is some sort of normalization in PvP zones or matches.  But for World PvP, the solution is a lot trickier.
